The 5th and 14th

The fifth hole

The view from the 5th/14th tee which is 363 yards to the green from the white tee. The ground from the tees on this hole, called The Whinns, is bordered by trees either side and slopes downhill. On the fairway proper, the ground falls away steeply from right to left. About 80 yards from the tree-enclosed green there is a copse of small trees extending halfway across the fairway.

The 5th is a par 4 of 352 yards from the yellow tee and 341 from the winter mat with a stroke index of 4. The 14th, from an adjacent tee, is 342 yards from the yellow tee (341 yards from the winter mat) with a stroke index of 5.

The approach to the 5th/14th green is over the copse on the left unless you keep to the upper slope on the right.

Red alert

All golfers at Woodford must wear a significant item of clothing (e.g. shirt, jumper, trousers) which is bright red — either scarlet or pillar box red — to conform with Corporation of London rules. Golfers must also not wear T-shirts, jeans, trainers or sports shoes on the course.
